Hi, I’m Kristin, the Bargain Chasing Tourist, and these are the Cruise Ducks! I’ve been cruising for over 20 years but I only recently discovered cruise ducks. This trend was started by cruise line passengers to leave rubber ducks around the ship for fellow cruisers. Hiding cruise ducks is purely for fun to spread joy to someone you probably don’t know.
This cruise was in October, so WE had a lot of Halloween-themed ducks. I bought ducks from the Target dollar aisle and Dollar Tree leading up to my cruise. Of course, you can find groups of themed ducks on Amazon which I have linked below. Hiding cruise ducks is an awesome Sea Day activity when kids get bored or when the weather’s not great. There are a couple rules: You don’t want to hide ducks in the onboard shops OR areas that are prohibited to guests like hanging lifeboats.
You can tag your ducks with your sail date, cruise ship name, and where you’re from. A lot of people sell these cruise duck tags on Etsy, but you can download the tag I made for free below! I would love to know when you’re cruising and what kind of ducks you will be hiding!
Update—As of 1/2024, Disney Cruise Line has requested that guests NOT hide cruise ducks in public areas.
